Saal - Thomas Demand

Frankfurt, 2011

The much-celebrated international artist Thomas Demand used Kvadrat Soft Cells acoustic panels to create a site-specific work in the Städel Museum’s Metzler Hall in Frankfurt. The installation, entitled ‘Saal’ (Hall 2011), is an illusion-making crimson curtain, covering all four walls of the giant hall.

Initially, the curtain gives the impression of draping to the ground in wave-like folds. But, as the viewer approaches, it is revealed to be a completely flat piece with deliberately unaltered creases and imperfections.
