Nationalgalerie – Thomas Demand

Berlin, 2009

Germany’s first comprehensive solo-exhibition of the acclaimed German artist Thomas Demand, opened at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin in 2009. Entitled ‘Nationalgalerie’ it focused on a singular aspect of Demand’s work; photography of German events since 1945.

The specially constructed installation incorporated almost 5km of the Kvadrat fabric Tonica. This was draped over a hidden support structure, which created the effect of making the artist’s work appear to float on the walls.
