Swedbank Headquarters

Project
Kvadrat textiles are used throughout the interior of Swedbank’s new headquarters, just outside Stockholm. The interior of the building has been designed to create an inspiring environment that reflects the bank’s core values: openness, simplicity and care. The architectural theme is a folded triple-V structure, which creates an inviting democratic environment with a focus on meetings. Compared to a traditional office, in this activity-based office, employees are located closer to each other on undisturbed working islands, for better internal communication and visual contact between departments.

Tengbom, the interior architects, have also made custommade products for the premises, which combines three types of office environment: fixed office spaces, flexible units for visiting colleagues and ‘touch-down’ spaces for informal meetings. The building also features three roof terraces and service facilities arranged around a central axis. Swedbank’s ambitious sustainability strategy and commitment to ‘care’ is reflected in the construction of the headquarters. Compactly designed for optimal energy efficiency, it has received a Gold certification from the Swedish sustainability rating system, the ‘Miljöbyggnad’. The furniture have also been approved by the Swedish Environmental Management Council (MSR) criteria for procurement of furniture and fitting.

We chose Kvadrat textiles for the consideration of sustainability - from both environmental and product quality perspectives. Their fine fabrics could hold over time. In addition, the project size and variety demanded fabrics with consistent colour scale and diversified structure that met the environmental requirements!’ Linn Sylvan & Kristina Jonasson, Architects at Tengbom
