Love, art and kilometres of textiles were the focal points for an innovative collaboration between Kvadrat and the art museum ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum. Textiles draped from floor to ceiling served as a backdrop for the international exhibition, entitled ‘I love you’, which took the audience on a sensual and aesthetic journey into the universe of love.
For the first time ever, visitors to a Danish art museum had the opportunity to explore a fusion of art, architecture and creative staging when the ARoS art museum in Aarhus opened the ‘I Love You’ exhibition. The 1,600-square-metre area for temporary exhibitions at ARoS was dressed to challenge with almost three kilometres of textiles: visitors encountered a number of sensual, provocative and beautiful experience rooms where the textiles provided the framework for large, illuminated passages and dark, intimate corners.
In the exhibition’s cornucopia of videos, sculptures, installations, paintings and photographs, leading artists from the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries visualised the different aspects of love. ‘I love you’ featured 40 international artists from about a dozen countries including Auguste Rodin, Pablo Picasso, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Louise Bourgeois, Pipilotti Rist, Yoko Ono, Tracey Emin and Nan Goldin.
