Grethe Sørensen

Grethe Sørensen is a renowned Danish textile weaver. Although she is an accomplished traditional weaving, producing many designs for Damask and Jacquard for example during her long career, most recently Sørensen is credited with revolutionising the art of tapestry by inventing a method of converting photographic pixels into threads. The invention of this pioneering process is demonstrated in Sørensen’s recent collections of large-scale tapestries. The city, urban landscapes, light and optical patterns are frequent inspirations for this designer who is so successfully moving the art of tapestry making forward.
