Divide and rule

At Lighthouse KUB Nord, Kvadrat textiles and a Kvadrat Shade solution play a central role in a ground-breaking ‘hybrid-flexible’ facility dedicated to learning and innovation. The space can be configured for different activities by arranging the curtains, Kvadrat Shade roller blinds and mobile furniture.

The special 7-layer curtains elevate the experience of Lighthouse KUB Nord on many levels. Innovatively, they are constructed with different shades of Divina MD and Divina Melange on their outward sides and integrate five layers of soundproofing core and leather-finished base.

As the curtains are suspended from a motorised rail system, they make it simple to transform the space while enhancing its aesthetic and acoustic quality. Specifically, they complement the single-layer curtains also from the Divina family and the advanced voice lift system by minimising sound transmission by up to 18 dB.

The Kvadrat Shade roller-blind solution is also motorised and provides easy control over daylight from the floor-to-ceiling windows. It incorporates the Minimal bracket by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, where the textile Silvretta is used.

Anna Kathrine Bisgaard Sørensen, Senior Creative leader, Arkitekt MAA Associate: "We have used textiles for virtually all functions in 'Lighthouse KUB Nord' - dividing, shielding, creating spaces, upholstering, regulating acoustics, and as a backdrop. They impart a truly unique ambience by setting the stage - quite literally. In addition to that, this combination of textiles and advanced AV-technology opens up new possibilities in our transformation projects "

Lighthouse KUB Nord (København’s Universitetsbibliotek Nørre Campus) is a transformation project in the picturesque Koppel Building. Overlooking a park, it serves as a focal point for the students, teachers and researchers who use the Royal Danish Library facilities at the University of Copenhagen’s North Campus.
