Project
Zaha Hadid architects have chosen Kvadrat textiles for the seating in the halls at the Guangzhou Opera House. Featuring state-of-the-art technology and design, this visionary building overlooks the Pearl River and sits opposite the Guandong Provincial Museum. The Opera House, which has been designed to confirm Guangzhou’s status as a leading cultural hub in Asia has a unique ‘twin boulder’ design, and is clad with a combination of glass and granite. One block contains the Operatic Hall, which houses the latest in acoustic technology. The other includes restaurants, bars and shops.
Solution
The seating in the 1,800-seat Operatic Hall is upholstered with a Trevira CS version of Cava in a custom-made shade of red. The chairs in the Multipurpose Hall, which have been designed for performance arts, concerts and opera, are upholstered with Gloss 2. In total, 2,380m of fabric was used.
“Within the very heart of this innovative performing arts venue, the main auditorium was designed to play a crucial role in delivering an exceptional experience to its audience. Kvadrat was chosen to create the right fabrics for this space.
The service and support experience whilst working with Kvadrat was simply excellent. The textiles developed for the upholstery of the main auditorium had not only met with the tringent technical and acoustic demands required in a hall of this kind, but with its light, modern texture and copper-red colour it also perfectly complemented the unique atmosphere and aesthetics of this contemporary space,” Simon Yu, Associate at Zaha Hadid Architects
