Australian ship designer Austal has chosen a specially designed Kvadrat textile for the seating inside the ‘Leonora Christina’, a high-speed catamaran passenger ferry operating in the Baltic Sea. Launched in 2011, the ferry runs between Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm and Ystad in southeast Sweden. Owned by BornholmerFærgen, the boat meets stringent Danish environmental regulations. It has three passenger decks and two car decks, which can accommodate 1,400 passengers and 357 cars. It carries 20,000 passengers a day.
The seats are covered with a specially developed version of Remix, created by Kvadrat in collaboration with Bornholm based artist Ingelise Westermann: the fabric is in unique colours and features a pattern based on the coccotylus sea plant. In total, 1.454 metres of fabric used.
'Kvadrat produces in an environmentally-friendly and sustainable way, and was therefore a natural choice of partner for us. All through the project we have enjoyed a great collaboration and I am pleased with the very beautiful results we have achieved.' Bent B. Hansen, shipping inspector, Danske Færger A/S
