Interior

Zurich 2 Melange in a custom timeless colour scheme

Zurich 2 Melange in custom colours is used throughout New Karolinska Solna; the new state-of-the-art hospital in Solna, Sweden.

The NKS project has high environmental, as well as hygiene and strength requirements. Our interior designers searched for a textile that matched these high standards of functionality, hygiene and the environment.

Furthermore, the hospital has the motto "patient first" and we wanted to contribute an interior that is inviting and caring - an experience that is important for both staff and patients. Zurich became a natural choice for us. In cooperation with Kvadrat we were given the opportunity to develop the product in materiality, feeling and colour palette,
“Eva Nyberg, Architect, SIR/MSA Nyréns Architects.

The timeless colour scheme for the hospital is inspired by nature and the changes in the seasons. In addition, reflecting the Scandinavian tradition, the interior features a diverse selection of natural materials.

Safety, comfort and sustainability combined
Nyréns architects are responsible for interior of the 330,000 sqm NKS. The concept brings to life the ‘patient first’ concept, which prioritises patient safety, integrity and comfort. The layout of the hospital also facilitates a smooth flow between healthcare, research and education.

The NKS is also designed to deliver the highest levels of hygiene and sustainability. Reflecting this, all the materials used in the construction, from the concrete in the foundation to the lighting fixtures, are resource-efficient.
