Time Capsules by Formafantasma at the 59th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia

During the 59th International Architecture Exhibition, la Biennale Arte will welcome visitors to a show within the show: Time Capsules by the design studio Formafantasma. Visitors will be encouraged to explore these five smaller sections as they move through the Cental Pavillion and the Corderie. Conceived as a miniature constellation of artworks, found objects, and documents, clustered together to investigate the exhibition’s key themes through different art historical perspectives and trans-generational affinities.

These “cabinets”, or architectural spaces, have been developed using 710 metres of Kvadrat textiles including, Forest Nap by Akira Minagawa, Vidar from the Kvadrat/Raf Simons collection, and Moiré by Vincent Van Duysen and Avalon upholstery textile from the Sahco collection. This follows a successful collaboration with the design studio, where the duo used Kvadrat textiles for the exhibition design of Caravaggio-Bernini Baroque in Rome at Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (2020).

Formafantasma, founded by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, focuses on experimental material investigations and explored issues such as the relationship between tradition and local culture, critical approaches to sustainability, and the significance of objects as cultural conduits.
