Product description

Maya is a rhythmic, airy curtain textile designed by Doshi Levien, offering an open structure and a light, matte expression. Despite its delicate look, it is extremely robust.

Constructed with a leno weave, Maya creates a beautiful play of light and shadow, as conditions change throughout the day. The design is inspired by Indian saris, which combine different transparencies to consistently reveal subtle nuances.

Maya, meaning ‘illusion’ in Hindi, features an open grid balanced with narrow densely woven bands. This design creates the illusion of a striped pattern, which runs from floor to ceiling.

Discreet, graceful shades associated with traditional saris comprise the textile’s palette. These range from gentle notes of mint and grey to understated impressions of bolder tones, such as brick and teal.

Nipa Doshi: “Flowing like the wind. Opaque as smoke. Cool as moonlight. These are some of the associations that come to my mind when I think of Maya. When we selected the colours, it was particularly important to us that they provided a sense of lightness, like a wash of colour to a space.”

Made from durable Trevira CS, Maya is flame-retardant. Consequently, they are suitable for both residential and public spaces.

Performance
  • LightFastness {{site.selectedConfiguration.lightFastness}}

    ISO 105-B02

    Lightfastness relates to the ability of a textile to retain its colour under light. When testing for lightfastness, samples are exposed to artificial daylight for a specified period.

    The evaluation scale ranges from 1 (worst) to 8 (best). An increase of one point corresponds to a doubling of the lightfastness, i.e. the same fading takes twice as long.

  • Visual light transmission {{site.selectedConfiguration.lightTransmission}}%

    Light transmittance indicates the percentage of the visible light penetrating the textile. Densely woven textiles in dark colours usually have a lower light transmittance, whereas loosely woven fabrics in light colours allow more light to pass through.

    Flame retardant performance depends on the type of foam used. There are differing requirements concerning the flame-retardancy of textiles dependent on the area of application, country or even region. Our textiles pass the majority of international standards and are also tested for a selection of regional requirements.

Care instructions curtain textiles

Regular cleaning is important in order to keep the curtain textile looking its best and to prolong its life. Dust and dirt wear down the textile and also reduce its fire-retardant properties.

  • Regular care

    If possible, we recommend washing curtains once a year. If used heavily, a more frequent cleaning may be appropriate. All curtain fabrics by Kvadrat and Sahco are supplied with a care label. We recommend the use of detergent without optical bleach for all items in which, according to care instructions, washing is possible. Please take into account a possible shrinkage between 1–4 %. It is always possible to wash at a lower temperature that the one specified for light soiling. Please contact a professional dry cleaner if dry cleaning is the only option for maintenance. A professional dry cleaner may also assist in working out maintenance schedules which ensure that the fabrics are maintained properly so that a good indoor climate and maximum duration of the curtains are achieved.
