Muller van Severen | Day Bed
Working between the realms of art and design, Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen’s furniture invites participation between the function and the look of their pieces. For the Divina project they have created a comfortable daybed using three clearly different coloured pieces of textile.
“We wanted to accentuate the three parts of the daybed – the side where you lie, the side where you sit, and the cushion you have to share,” they explain. Their daybed explores the combination of, and confrontation between, something with a clear purpose and something that is also sensitive and warm.
Belgian photographer Fien Muller and artist Hannes Van Severen have been collaborating together since 2011 on their furniture collection Muller van Severen. Drawing on their artistic practice, their work is designed to invite participation. For them the process of ‘designing’ is like a conversation and an evolution of ideas, with one finished product inspiring the next. Working and living in Ghent, Muller and Van Severen have been shortlisted for several awards including the Design Museum London’s Designs of the Year 2013, Icon magazine Designer of the Year award 2013, and the Wallpaper* magazine Designer of the Year 2014.
