LEED's key principles

The LEED certification focuses roughly 2/3rds on the environmental dimension and 1/3rd on the social dimension.

Environmental

Within the environmental dimension, LEED is mainly focused on the principles of Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, and Materials and Resources.

Social

Within the social dimension, LEED puts most focus on the health aspect. The major focus on this aspect comes from LEED’s Indoor Environment Quality principle.

What are the focus areas and main levers within each

Environmental

Resources - Carry out a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate and reduce resource use compared with the baseline building, using indicators. Use the commissioning process to optimise the use of resources for building systems. Reduce energy use. Source raw materials responsible.

Social

Health - Create good indoor air quality with low-emitting interior materials by exceeding requirements in indoor air quality standards. Ensure good thermal comfort and sufficient daylight. Create quality views and good acoustical performance.
