Decarbonisation

We commit to mitigating climate change, in adherence with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goal 13, Climate Action. Through decarbonisation, we embarked on the road to reduce our carbon emissions towards net-zero across our supply chain.

Our long-term goal is to reach net-zero by 2040. To achieve our target we will work towards eliminating carbon emissions from all our own operations and across our value chain, including purchased goods and services, upstream transportation, and business travel. We will support this with a move towards circular systems that offer take-back and product lifetime extending services on many of our ranges.

We will provide EPDs for all products that generate 70% of our revenue by 2026

Our 2024 performance highlights

Fully validated net zero target

In 2024, Kvadrat’s net zero target was fully validated by the Science Based
Targets initiative (SBTi), aligning with the 1.5°C climate trajectory. Achieving this validation reflects years of rigorous data collection, stakeholder engagement, and in-depth verification. Our 2040 target strengthens our leadership in climate action and reinforces our dedication to meaningful emissions reduction.

Signing a PPA with Reel for renewable energy

Since 2011, Kvadrat’s electricity consumption has been fully covered by green certificates. Building on this commitment, in 2024, we signed a landmark Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Reel, a renewable energy supplier, to support the development of a new solar park in Mesballe, Jutland, near our headquarters in Ebeltoft and contribute to the expansion of renewable energy. Set to begin operation in 2025, the park will generate clean electricity to match 32% of the energy consumption at Kvadrat’s HQ for the next five years.

Lowering our CO2 footprint

Kvadrat Really introduced the latest evolution of its Textile tabletop, balancing durability with a lower CO2 footprint. The new 22mm tabletop offers enhanced performance while reducing density and production time. Despite having a 4mm increase in thickness compared to the 18mm tabletop, its carbon footprint only increases by 0.9 kg CO2/m², resulting in a total footprint of 10,3 kg CO2/m2.

Transitioning to 100% renewable energy

In 2024, Kvadrat’s second-largest wool producer, Innvik, completed its transition to 100% renewable energy. Now powered entirely by bioenergy for heating and Norwegian hydropower for electricity, Innvik has reduced CO2 emissions from production by 90% compared to 2022. These energy sourcing changes and the establishment of the new dyehouse have also improved energy efficiency by 24% compared to two years ago.
