Doshi Levien – Special commission by Patrizia Moroso

The Principessa daybed by Doshi Levien for Moroso is inspired by the classic Danish fairy-tale ‘The Princess and the Pea’ by Hans Christian Anderson. Using 13 separate ‘mattresses’, each upholstered using Kvadrat Hallingdal 65, the daybed is an exercise in fantasy and imagination.

The top-surface of the daybed features a graphic composition of objects as if our modern princess is preparing for a night out. Including a hair dryer, an umbrella, a necklace and a cocktail glass, the eclectic array of accessories includes the glamorous alongside the plain utilitarian, each picked out in the brightly coloured textile. The bold weave of Hallingdal lends itself to fine details and every object illustration stands out like a jewel.

Doshi Levien is a London-based partnership between Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien. With much experience in exploring the coming together of cultures, given their own British and Indian backgrounds, the pair is also well versed in the art of story telling and fine craftsmanship.
